Next Generation Learning

The purpose of this web section is to provide our staff with current and up-to-date information on the concept of Next Generation Learners.  This term has now replaced the term "21st Century Learners".   (We are over 10 years into the 21st Century!)

Next Generation Learners are our students.  They are digital natives, that in many cases, can run circles around us with their technological skills.  They have grown up with the Internet and know how to use it to create new ideas and information.  Our mission is to be prepared to teach them.  No easy feat.

This page will feature artifacts designed to spark discussion. We will feature video links, web articles and other items of interest.  Please book mark this site and come back often.  If you have something that you would like to share with your fellow educators, please contact either Jim Heiden or Lori Esenberg.

For innovation in public education to be truly transformative, it must first focus on changing the current system of standardized learning to a new system of personalized learning. Personalized learning is individually paced, customized to specific learning styles and preferences, and acknowledges a learner's unique interests. In an environment that is fully personalized, the objectives, content, methods, and pace may all vary. Personalized learning is rigorous, dynamic and reinvents the student-educator relationship. It must also be both sustainable and scalable, thereby enabling mass customization across the entire public education system.
